Fishing Rod Cases
As with any type of equipment, for any type of purpose, your fly fishing equipment needs
to be looked after, and fishing rod cases are one of the best investments one can make.
Any experienced angler knows how important it is to look after your fly fishing equipment.
It's not just about preparing your equipment the night before you are due to go fly fishing; it's about thoroughly
cleaning and storing your equipment when the day is over.
Not only that, but one of life's great pleasures, it seems to me is what I call "wander
fishing". This involves taking a large scale map into the wilds of the country, a National Park for example, and
leaving the car to "wander" amongst small lakes and streams, stopping to cast a fly and see what fish are contained
in its depths, or more often, shallows.
This or any type, of fishing, often means walking over rugged terrain, or through bushes
and scrub. Either way, fishing rod cases are an essential item. Although fly fishing rods are extremely bendy,
certain types such as carbon fibre are designed to bend in one way only, i.e.: towards the fish you are trying to
catch. Bending them away from the normal curve position can result in breakage – something that is all too easy to
achieve when one stumbles when walking in wild country.
And it's not just when you are out fishing either. Simply transporting your fly fishing
rods carries grave risk - catching them in the door of your house or car for example. Unless you have a dedicated
fishing rod rack at home, there is the danger of your rods getting knocked and damaged by the day to day activities
of the household.
Fly fishing rods also often float, rods do not. Therefore if you are out boat fishing, if
your spare rods do fall in the water and they are in their fishing rod cases, chances are you'll get them
back!
Fishing rod cases come in all sizes to accommodate all sizes of rod. Personally, I like
travel rods, like the Greys Missionary.
The great thing about travel rods is that they come in a number of shorter sections,
usually 5-8, which means that a rod such as this will fit into very short fishing rod cases, about 2 feet long,
which makes even foreign fishing easy as far as transportation is concerned. And travel rods in short sections
don’t have to be of inferior quality either. A good quality travel rod will not only last, but it will not feel
that convenience has compromised overall quality, reducing your fishing capability.
Good Cordura type fishing rod cases will last many years and give excellent protection to
your fly fishing rods.
